So what is filet crochet?

My book filet crochet has just been published, and the most heard question I get is: what is filet crochet? Filet crochet isn't very different from normal crochet. The only difference is that there are a lot of openings in it because you combine chain stitches with (half) double crochets. If you do that, you get the effect of a fishing net, and that's where the French word filet comes from: filet means (amongst others) net in French. You can make many fun thinks with filet crochet. You can make squares, just like granny squares. But you can also make round cushions or nice jar covers. Or you can make a lamp, like the one on the picture above. This lamp was made with different colours of Drops Paris, and I only used chain stitches and double crochets which gives it a nice and open effect. This pattern is not in my book but it is available soon. Do you want to give filet crochet a try? You can buy my book in the webshop of Forte Uitgevers, but you can also come to the Amigurumi-day at EchtStudio in Alphen aan de Rijn. I'll be there and I'd love it if you came over to say hi.
